Yoga Classes on Tuesday & Thursdays

Yoga classes began last week at Hobe Sound Community Presbyterian Church! If you want to increase your flexibility, strength, and balance, there are two unique yoga classes to choose from: Tuesday, from 10 -11, join us for Yoga Foundations, an introduction to the primary poses that form the foundation of a complete, flowing yoga practice. Yoga mat required.

On Thursdays, from 10-11, consider joining Chair Yoga Class,  a gentler form of yoga done using the support of a chair. These exercises will help to improve the range of motion in all your joints, increase your overall strength and improve your balance. All classes will be held in the Church Courtyard or Fellowship Hall and are taught by Sandra Price, an experienced yoga practitioner, RYT200  and Certified Chair Yoga Instructor. Donations for class participation are greatly appreciated. For more information or to register, contact Sandra at: prisandra@gmail.com.

Holy Catholic Church

DID YOU KNOW that when we recite the Apostles’ Creed and say the word catholic, it is not in reference to a particular denomination, but instead it is in reference to one holy universal Church.  The word catholic is simply a form of the Greek word [katholikos] which means “of the whole”.  So when we say that we “believe in the holy catholic church”,  we are confessing that Jesus Christ is the church’s one foundation and that all who trust in him as Savior and Lord are by God’s grace members of this universal (catholic) church.

Did You Know-tice?

DID YOU KNOW-tice that the paraments were white last Sunday?  White is used for special days in the redemptive work of Jesus Christ.  White symbolizes purity, holiness and virtue, as well as respect and reverence.  The paraments changed to white in celebration of Transfiguration Sunday, which is the Sunday before Ash Wednesday.  Transfiguration Sunday is a time to celebrate the Transfiguration of the Lord in which Jesus transitioned his ministry to “set his face to go to Jerusalem” (Luke 9:51), where he would die.  In celebrating this event, we rejoice in the divine majesty of Christ, whose glory shone even when confronted with the cross.  It is given to us to reflect upon as we journey through our own Lent towards the agony of the cross and the victory of the empty tomb.  We celebrate this mystery in order that our own faith be renewed in this journey.

The paraments changed to purple on Ash Wednesday and will remain purple until Good Friday.  Purple marks the seasons of penitence and preparation.  It signifies the feeling of sorrow for our sins, and symbolizes suffering and mourning.
